Aussie singer and songwriter of pop music – theatre actor – Normie needs no introduction to our generation.

Probably the biggest pop star of the 60’s, Normie Rowe defied the logic of the times, as the peak of his popularity came when the Beatles were dominating charts around the world. This Melbourne teenager created pop riots and became the first Melbourne recording artist to achieve a national no. 1 hit.

Rowe’s name came up in first 1968 intake. Most conscripts were selected by a ballot of birthday dates but Normie would find out much later, that his birthday was not one of those that was drawn out. It has been suggested by many, that Normie had been conscripted because of who he was.He served time in Vietnam, and was one of the lucky ones to return.

He studied drama under the menorship of the great Hayes Gordon and has appeared in many stage roles including “Les Miserables”, “Annie”, “Evita”, “Get Happy” and “Oklahoma”, just to name a few.

His legacy of songs include “It Ain’t Necessarily So”, “I Who Have Nothing”, “Que Sera Sera”, “Shakin’ All Over”, “Ooh La La”, “It’s Not Easy” and has even co-written his own biography tracing his life from early days in Melbourne to the 50’s and 60’s and extending to this era.

Normie has become the Ambassador for Solider On, a support organisation focusing on younger ex-service people dealing with physical and psychological effects of their ware service deployments. He is well qualified!

No doubt it will be a fabulous trip down memory lane to close the 2020 Stone the Crows Festival.
