The new conference centre at the ACTA Grounds is happening.

Tony Turner Start of work

The photo above shows the slab of the car park near the workshop building (thanks Grant for taking this out his car window). The construction involves a lot of pre-fab work which is happening off site.

CEO Tony Turner (shown above holding the plans) advises that everything is on track for the World Championships to be held between 16th and 27th March. There will be a new road coming in from Copland Street, extra shooting facilities at the western end of the ground and more.Obviously this new building will require changes to our site plan. This will necessitate a gathering of some crows in late October to see how the exact position will affect our layout. The car park might be an ideal spot for restricted mobility small vehicles, there is the new road to consider, changes at the western end of the grounds and more.

The aim is to redo the layout, get all the site numbers allocated and email out Squawkers' Permits in early January. For this reason, it would be really appreciated if everyone could pay the balance of their attendance fees by December 31.

For 2018, the main entertainment will be be Crow Central in the new conference building. The morning show will start at 9 am, as daylight saving rolls over on the Sunday of our week. Some of the "physical" activities will start at 8 am so you can get that early morning kick start to the day. These include hula dancing, tai chi and line dancing!

We already have a selection of travelogue seminars, poetry sessions, plus the usual games of pétanque, ladder golf and social disc bowls, in addition to the Australian Disc Bowls Championships.

The photography and original poem competition theme for 2018 is "OLD BUILDINGS". So get that creativity going, entries will close on Sunday April 1 (no - it's not an April Fool's Day joke) so our four day attendees can get the results of their entries before they leave on Tuesday morning.

Ukulele and guitar sessions will be in the Club House. Once again ukuleles can be pre-ordered to ensure you get a suitable instrument if you are a beginner, or if an upgrade is desired.  More details about this in a couple of months.

Crafty Crows and Daddy Day Care will have their own marquees. We hope to have photos of all classes on the website after Christmas so you can see what our tutors will be providing and can pre-book your choice/s. Both activities will take registrations for classes or activities in the new year. On site registrations will take place from 2 pm on arrival day. This will give plenty of opportunity to make your selection.

Part of our ecumenical Easter services will include hymn singing. Judy will be back again as choir master for those "birds" who sing in tune.

Below is a list of our 2018 entertainers - we are sure you will agree it's a not to be missed variety lineup.

That's probably about enough for this edition. Our program planning for next year has lots more than that, but we need to have something left to share with you in future editions.

So - till the next edition of the Crow Chronicle - take care and travel safely.
Chrissy, Jim, Grant and all our volunteers who help make it all happen.
