The Nesting Site is in Fine Feather!

To all our flock who have been dampened over the last week or who are waiting for the rain movement down the coast, everyone hopes you are all OK.  Mother Nature sure can show us who is boss with our droughts, floods and fires!
Our recent inspection of the ACTA grounds where our flock comes to nest was more picturesque than normally at this time of year. The La Nina effect has resulted in more regular rainfall and a far better grass coverage that we usually see at the end of summer.

ACTA have continued to do improvements to the grounds during the covid period.  Further 15 amp powered sites with water taps have been added at the western end of the grounds (near the transformer on the fence line for the old crows) but the offset is that we won’t be using the 10 amp points in the blue boxes nor the points off the transformer boxes. These sites were utilised for the Camping Lifestyle RV weekend trade fair of three days last weekend and it looked truly amazing.

This means our number of powered sites remains virtually in equilibrium – so that’s the positive.  However to give the powered site to those who were previously on the back row of Kookaburra Lane (both east and west) you may need to be moved from your groups to give you that promised and booked power site. In the long term this is a definite positive as they are 15 amp not 10 amp.

The majority of the bigger groups will still be sited in the approximate area planned for 2020.  If your site is affected we will know after Pam and Chrissy go through everything (again!) on Sunday and see which vehicles will fit best where and consolidate the groups as best we can.

If you must remain with your group and are prepared to accept an unpowered site instead of a powered one, please email us immediately – definitely before 9 am Sunday.  Otherwise if you are one of the powered sites coming off Kookaburra Lane you may be relocated to near the western amenities blocks where the new power sites are.

Don’t panic just yet – remember there is so much going on through the day, you really only need your RV to have a rest or for sleeping at night, meaning if you are not right on the doorstep of your favourite friends, there is sure to be someone in the group who will let you sit under their awning during the day.

There will still be the car parking areas right near the Crow Central Auditorium and as long as you adhere to the 10 km/hr, you can drive from your site to the concrete parking areas, you can still easily access the activities which are all in the centre of the ground if you have mobility issues.  On another tangent, how many of us really could do with the extra walking after the sedentary two years of Covid and the extra kilos gained?

More time was spent going through the storage shed and thanks to Grant everything was in tip top condition.  We even organised for the 2020 volunteers shirts to be suitably updated for 2022 thanks to Hunters, who already are the suppliers of the disc bowls medals.

That brings me to yet another thought (dangerous I know)…. the Australian Disc Bowls Championships are sponsored by Jack Hill of Wagga Caravans. During 2020, Jack and his family lost an expected new addition who was called Hugo.  He only survived four days due to major heart problems.  This resulted in their working with Westmead Children’s Hospital charity called BLOSS (BabyLoss) providing support to people who have experienced the loss of a baby, through pregnancy, stillbirth and neonatal loss, creating a group to cover the Riverina region in particular.

The 2020 Australian Disc Bowls Championship medals will never be played for – what will happen to them is the question?  My thought is a silent auction and the funds go to support BLOSS.  You can win the 2022 medal if you practice and play well enough. You are trusted not to skite that you won the 2020 medal.  What do you think?  Let me know by email.

The program is progressing well and once the siting allocations are done, you will be kept updated…some extra good new talks included.

Squawkers Permits – aim is to send out by mid March to everyone or earlier if possible.  Volunteers – your arrival date will be on your permit and the first ones in will be the siting teams (with a few special helpers) with arrival from 3 pm on Sunday April 10.  No this isn’t favouritism – they have to get the grounds marked out ready for the crow arrivals on Thursday and Friday.  Other volunteers will be mostly Tuesday.

Anyway that’s enough for tonight – thanks for taking the time to read all these Chronicles.

Don’t hesitate to email any queries and they will be answered asap. As Bob and I will be out doing Daddy Day Care important “stuff” in the shed, would really appreciate emails not phone calls for the next few days.

Can’t wait till we all catch up again – Take care till we next “squawk”
