If you have read how Stone the Crows Festival was named,  you will know that Wagga Wagga very loosely means home of many crows.

So ….. How could you have a festival without stoning the crows? and what better day to hold it than our Open Day where everyone can join in, not being tied up with workshops, seminars, entertainment, talks and all the other activities that form part of our seven venues.

Our crows are rather unique, cut out of corrugated iron and painted by the local Mens Shed, placed on fan stands so they could be wheeled around.

To start with, they positioned not far from the throwers who have three balls to score a direct hit – that is measured by it making a “clunk” noise when the tennis ball hits the “crow”. If you score one or more hits, you are through to the next round, when the crow moves back about 1 m.  This rotation continues until there is only one person left – and that’s the winner.

Because the dainty delicate ladies can’t generally throw a ball as hard as the guys, we hold two sections – one for the ladies and one for the men.  There is a winner in each section.  If the lady decides she can do better than the guy, then it’s up to her to challenge for the overall champion but that’s not obligatory.

It’s a lot of fun – no actual crows will be hurt but we can’t guarantee there won’t be any wayward tennis balls (which are accumulated each year by Jim from his tennis mates).

Join in on Open Day after the markets! It is a lot of fun and barracking for your mates is thoroughly recommended.
